I’m not really sure how to start this, I’ve never written an article or a blog before. The last piece of writing I did was probably my dissertation 4 years ago at Uni, but hey there’s a first time for everything. The main reason I’ve started writing this is due to continued positive feedback on my posts on Instagram, @reganphillips_PT, and I thought I would start to expand on some of the topics I post about. Nobody likes reading 1000 line essays on Instagram, and if you do read something that is gold dust, when you want to get back to that post it can take hours of scrolling and searching to find that one post again. Therefore, I want to go into more detail in articles like this for anyone that wants to learn more about a certain exercise, training method, nutrition plan or anything else that I ramble on about.
Firstly, here’s some information about me, if anyone somehow reads this that doesn’t already know who I am. I am 26, live in Loughton, Essex, I’m a personal trainer specialising in strength training and have a background in rugby and strongman. I stopped playing rugby when I was 19 and I competed in under 90kg strongman until I was 24 reaching national and international competitions. Rugby and strongman certainly takes its toll on your body, and over the years I’ve learnt about how to rehab and train around injuries, and boy I’ve had a lot of them. I haven’t competed in but do enjoy dabbling in calisthenics, powerlifting, weightlifting, bodybuilding, and crossfit, and I use training methods from each of these sports with my clients. I wouldn’t call myself a world class expert in any of these individual fields but do feel my knowledge is to a high standard on all of them.
What I intend to write about. If you flick on my Instagram page you’ll see my bio reads “Training footage, client videos, progress pictures and poor banter”, and I’ll more than likely be replicating that theme on this blog. I’ve never even followed a blog before so don’t really know what they’re about but hopefully this one will be useful and not a big waste of time. I will write content weekly and will talk about my experience with training, training clients, tricks of the trade, diet advice, whatever I feel will be valuable. It could be the importance of foot positioning for a squat, progressions to your first muscle up, nutrition advice for an office worker, weight loss tricks, why I don’t support running for weight loss, blah blah blah. If you would like to hear me talk more about a certain topic then message me or comment below (is that a thing?) and I will make an effort to pass some wisdom on.
The first few topics I will talk about will be things I get asked most frequently. Next week I will be writing about the deadlift; the who, what, why, when and how’s… plus whatever else comes to my mind over the next week.
